I did find some enjoyment in finding various items and collectible chests as they encouraged me to explore the map a bit more, but the fun in this may wear off fast for some. There are tiny sub-plots in side quests but none are very interesting. None of these quests really amount to anything though outside of collecting various items or beating down a couple of enemies which is a shame. Quests are littered throughout the world of One Piece: World Seeker. There’s never too many to the point where things feel overwhelming but there’s a decent number to take on. This almost seems like a given as we’ve seen other games do this before and things typically turn out for the better because of it. I think a lot of the game’s arbitrary difficulty could’ve been alleviated if you were able to dodge during combos, especially since you’ll be consistently going up against more than one enemy. You can take your hand off the attack button which will cause Luffy to stop attacking, but there’s a period in between that moment and your ability to do anything again where you’re basically a sitting duck. Once you’re committed to Luffy’s combo string, there’s no getting out. This is even more difficult because the combat’s two main mechanics, attacking and dodging, don’t flow together well at all. When paired with the game’s loading screens every time you die, things also get frustrating. So much so that I found myself having to completely opt towards cheap mechanics to overcome some difficult fights. This difficulty never really carries over to grunt enemies, but when pitted against some of the bosses things can feel really, really cheap. I’d say the most infuriating thing about combat is One Piece: World Seeker’s incredibly harsh difficulty spike about six or seven hours in.

Check back with us soon for our full account of how the game itself is.“…the combat’s two main mechanics, attacking and dodging, don’t flow together well at all.”

I put about five hours into the game and apart from some frame drops, I didn’t have any serious problems. The FPS issues are worrying and it lacks frills, but it’s playable and looks good.

One Piece: World Seeker has a solid PC connection. The game is quite aim-heavy in some areas as the lock-on feature isn’t that great and Luffy has a ranged attack and can latch on to enemies. The keyboard controls are rebindable and functional, but the camera barely moves with the mouse, which is problematic. controlsĪs you might expect, the game allows the use of gamepads in addition to keyboards and mice. All in all, this is probably the most technically advanced One piece game yet. Enemy character models are also constantly being recycled and NPCs don’t animate very well. They’re usually very simple and look more like action figures, right down to the way Luffy’s shirt looks more like hard plastic than cloth. However, the character models don’t fare as well. I was expecting a game that cuts more corners, but it looks very good. One Piece: World Seeker surprisingly has some pretty decent textures. Graphic options are fairly limited, so my comparison photos only focus on textures and shadows. The fact that this problem exists is very disappointing, but I can’t imagine that most computers, even weaker ones, will have trouble hitting the 30fps cap and slowing down the game.

The game also features dynamic resolution, which can drop your resolution on the fly to ensure you don’t drop too far below 60 or 30 fps.

This isn’t ideal, but it’s better than trying to play in slow motion. Luckily, you can lock the game at 30 FPS instead. On high settings and 45 fps, the game slowed down so much that it became a daunting task to play. This is also noticeable when the fps drop from 60 to 52. However, instead of just drawing fewer frames when needed, the game slows down instead. When I cranked up all the settings I was able to keep my fps stable in the mid 40’s. Of course, this means that if you load the game and want better performance, you’ll have to wait through another long loading screen before you can play again.Īs I mentioned before, there is an issue with the fps. I had to switch to borderless, exit the menu, exit the game, and then restart before I could even change the resolution to 1080p.

When I first loaded the game I got stuck at 720p with no option to go higher. The first thing I have to mention about these settings is that none of them can be applied while the game is running.
